Hi!
My name is Carolyn. I spent too much time in my life hiding my “guilty pleasures” or “childish” hobbies worrying that others would find me weird or annoying. Now, if you want to talk about Pokémon or a reality competition show I’m currently watching (Dancing with the Stars and Survivor, I’m looking at you!), I’m ready to talk your ear off! Crocheting helps keep my mind focused when it is feeling like running all over the place, especially as I have to make sure my cat, Nico, does not eat the yarn while still trying to remember my stitch count. Growing up as a queer woman in Kentucky, I was taught (directly and indirectly) that I needed to put others first and hide important parts of who I was to ensure other people’s happiness and comfort first. Through my own therapy and life experiences, I’ve learned how to re-embrace my own joy, excitement, and identity.
I work with adults who have spent their lives worrying about and taking care of others before thinking of their own needs. They are trying to relearn how to express their needs, passions, beliefs, and emotions without overly worrying about how they will impact other people. I’ve had my own experiences (which may be different from yours) struggling with balancing my own needs versus the expectations of others. I understand the power that has come through finding more of this balance and embracing who I am. I also know how important it was to have spaces and people that helped me to bravely and safely explore long-hidden parts of myself at my own pace, and I am honored to get to hold that space for others. I know that contacting a therapist can be intimidating! I’m currently accepting new clients and would love to have to opportunity to get to know you. Let’s talk; call me today.
